My research interest mainly concerns two different fields: health effects from exposure to cold and hand-arm vibration.
In an epidemiological research project titled Cold and Health In Northern Sweden (CHINS), we investigate how the working population in northern Sweden is exposed to cold, and what the consequences are. Studied outcomes include circulatory and neurosensory injuries affecting the hands, musculoskeletal disorders, and respiratory symptoms. Other effects such as reduced work ability, sick leave and job change are also evaluated. In addition, we conduct laboratory studies focused on the microcirculation of the hands.
In a FORTE-funded research project, we investigate how to prevent injuries in people who work with vibrating tools. The purpose of the project is to evaluate how well the questionnaires used in periodical medical examinations of vibration-exposed workers detect peripheral nerve injuries. We also investigate differences between the current and coming technical measurement standard, used to quantify hand-arm vibration exposure.
My hope is that this research will lead to preventive measures, and in the long run contribute to reducing the occurrence of cold and vibration injuries.
