I teach and conduct research in physiotherapy. I also serve as a workplace health and safety representative at my department.
Research Focus
My research focuses on physical ergonomics and methods for preventing musculoskeletal disorders associated with physically demanding work. The research is primarily quantitative and relies on technical measurements to assess biomechanical loading and neuromuscular control. Research activities are conducted through interdisciplinary collaboration.
Societal Outreach
I contribute to the development of standards in physical ergonomics through the Swedish Institute for Standards (SIS), serving as a representative of the Ergonomics and Human Factors Society in Sweden (EHSS). Research dissemination is an important task, and I have contributed as a writer to the Scandinavian journal FysioScience as well as the Swedish professional journals Sjukgymnasten and Fysioterapi.
Clinical Experience
As a licensed physiotherapist, I have worked with a wide range of patient populations in both outpatient and inpatient care, as well as in private practice. My clinical experience has primarily involved individuals with functional impairments resulting from orthopaedic and neurological injuries and disorders.
Teaching Activities
I primarily teach subjects related to the structure and function of the human body. Within the Physiotherapy Programme, I am responsible for the undergraduate course Physiotherapy: Occupational Physiology (7.5 ECTS credits) and the postgraduate course Pain Physiology and Motor Control in Musculoskeletal Rehabilitation (15 ECTS credits).
Pedagogical Approach
I value the diversity of students’ learning styles and believe in creating a varied yet supportive learning environment. As I learn best through hands-on experiences and discussion. I strive to incorporate active learning methods and digital resources into my teaching. My aim is to foster autonomous, critical, and collaborative learning while encouraging students to take an active role in their own learning process.
Academic Service and Leadership
I have held several leadership and service roles within the Faculty of Medicine at Umeå University, including serving as coordinator of the research-oriented students (Research Aspirants) and as a member of the Faculty Board for Undergraduate Education. I have also served as Chair of the Programme Council for the Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, and Sports Science programmes. In addition, I have undertaken both national and international academic assignments.
