Health on Campus - Activities with requiring pre-registration

Health on campus offers workshops and activities with a limited number of places. These activities require pre-registration, remember to register!

Registration

Remember, all activities below require registration. Registration opens 4 February at 9:00 and closes on 16 February at 13:00. Only during this period you will find registration links to the respective activities presented below.

Health on Campus 18 February 2026

Most activities during the day will be held in Swedish, but English speakers are welcome to participate. Instructors will try to provide support in English where possible.

  • Archery with Umeå Bågskytteklubb

    Archery

    Come and try archery with Umeå Archery Club. No prior experience or equipment is required. Indoor shoes with light soles and a T‑shirt are recommended. With the bow in your hand and an arrow on the string, your focus shifts from everyday life to the target. Archery helps you relax, unwind, and shut out everything around you. It also creates a sense of community, offers a fun activity, and for most people leads to better focus even outside of archery.

  • Art Exhibition in Aurora

    Art Exhibition

    A guided tour of the artworks in the Aurora building. Micael Norberg and Brita Täljedal will present and talk about some of the approximately 40 artworks that the Public Art Agency Sweden has placed in the newest building on campus. Since Umeå University was inaugurated in 1965, art has held a self‑evident place in shaping both the indoor and outdoor environments of the campus. The art collection has grown continuously and now represents a unique collection spanning several decades. Today, it consists of a large number of works in various artistic techniques. The tour can be given in Swedish or English.

  • Art Experience at Bildmuseet

    Art Experience – Art and Truth‑Telling

    The exhibition highlights the Truth Commission for the Sámi People on the Swedish side of Sápmi. Through vuöllie [yoik], duöjjie [Sámi handicraft], drawing, installation, architecture, and glass art, the exhibition sheds light on the role of art in expressing personal and collective truths. You are welcome to combine your visit with lunch or coffee at the restaurant Bygden, located at the Arts Campus. The guided tour is given in English.

  • Art Experience at Bildmuseet

    Art Experience - Slow Lokking Tour

    Join a slow‑looking tour at Bildmuseet — slow down and approach the art in an unhurried way. Today’s rapid flow of images also affects how we experience art. What happens if we give artworks more time? Can art help us lower our stress levels? Together with one of Bildmuseet’s guides, we focus on a small selection of works in the museum’s exhibitions. Using the slow‑looking method, we get the opportunity to engage with the artworks in a slightly different way. We gather at the reception desk at Bildmuseet. Language: Swedish or English depending on the participants. Feel free to combine your visit with lunch or coffee at the restaurant Bygden, Arts Campus. Please indicate in your registration whether you prefer the tour in Swedish or English.

  • Badminton with IFK Umeå

    Badminton

    Would you like some tips on how to make badminton even more fun and hopefully improve your skills? Come and give it a try—an instructor will be on site. All you need to bring are indoor shoes and workout clothes. Badminton Stadium Umeå offers free loaner rackets and free plastic shuttlecocks. Feather shuttlecocks are available for purchase. Sauna access is available. Session led by instructors from IFK Umeå Badminton.

  • Biski with Friluftsfrämjandet

    Taser Session In Skiing With A Biski

    With support from Friluftsfrämjandet’s instructors, you will have the opportunity to ride in a biski, where the instructor controls the entire sled. The activity is adapted for participants with various types of functional variations. The time per participant depends on the number of people interested but is estimated to be at least around 30 minutes.

  • Boules with Nordboulen

    Boules

    Come and try boule at Umeå’s Boule Hall together with instructors from BS Nordboulen. This activity is for both complete beginners and those who have played before. You will learn the technical and tactical basics of the game and have the opportunity to play one or two matches. Bring your colleagues, classmates, or come on your own. The Boule Hall is located at Spinnvägen 22 in Grubbe. Free transport can be arranged from Universum for those who wish.

    Box ´n Kick

    A fun form of training featuring strikes and kicks from Sport Ju‑Jutsu and Karate! Improve your basic technique with footwork, striking and kicking techniques, defense, and combat-oriented drills. The session ends with interval training using pads/mitts for punches and kicks. Instructors from IKSU Kampsport.

    Welcome to improve your skiing technique! During this session, we focus on classic style and go through its different sub‑techniques. You will receive practical tips and advice on what to keep in mind in order to take the next step in your development. Remember to bring appropriate equipment! The instructors are Elbert Karlsson, Längdskidåkningens kompetenscentrum (LKC) at Umeå School of Sport Sciences, and ski coach Andreas Domeij.

  • Cross-Country Skiing: Skate Style

    Cross‑Country Skiing: Skate

    Are you curious about skate skiing or looking to develop your technique? You are warmly welcome to join a technique session held in connection with Health on Campus. The session is aimed both at beginners and at those who have already come a bit further and want to take the next step in their skiing. The training is led by Elbert Karlsson, Operations Manager at Längdskidåkningens kompetencentrum (LKC), together with Andreas Domeij, an experienced ski coach. During the session, they will share their best tips to help you progress, and the goal is for each participant to take home one or two concrete keys for improving their technique. For the best experience, we recommend using skate skis and skate poles, and preferably skate boots — although the boots are less critical. With the right equipment, skiing becomes both easier and more enjoyable.

  • Dance: No Shame Sessions

    No Shame Sessions

    Welcome to a unique opportunity to try the new concept No Shame Sessions, focusing on body awareness, self-esteem, and authentic expression. The session aims to release unhealthy shame and strengthen your inner confidence through creative expression. You will receive an introduction to what shame is, how it affects us as individuals, and have the opportunity to reflect on the topic. During the session, you will take part in tailored No Shame exercises centered on introspection combined with rhythm and movement, opening the door to deeper awareness and bodily connection. No Shame was founded by Felicia B Martinez with the purpose of releasing shame and instead creating space for stronger self-love and authenticity. Felicia has over 15 years of experience in dance art and has spent several years studying and practicing various forms of holistic health and medicine. No dance experience is required — all you need is an open mind and comfortable clothing that allows movement. No shoes are needed. The first session is open to both men and women, while the second is primarily aimed at women. Part II consists of a choreographed dance session that takes creative expression and self-esteem to the next level. The sessions are held in both Swedish and English.

    Functional Strength Training

    Functional strength training with a focus on jumps and medicine balls. Discover the fundamentals of functional strength training with particular emphasis on jump strength and medicine‑ball work. You will learn proper technique and understand the purpose behind the exercises to build explosiveness, stability, and strength that is useful both in everyday life and in sports. The session is designed for basic and beginner levels, but the exercises can easily be scaled up to challenge even advanced and elite athletes — depending on your experience and goals.     Nordic-Style Sled Dog Training, with own dog

    Bring your dog and try a sled dog training session. The session begins with an introduction to sled dog sports, followed by socialisation training for the dogs (“dog mingling”). We finish by running the dogs, where we practise start/stop, passing, and turning. Equipment to bring: A dog at least 18 months old; cross‑country skis, poles, and ski boots.     Nordic-Style Sled Dog Training, without dog

    Experienced dog–handler teams demonstrate the sport, including competing against each other and against a snowmobile, accompanied by a commentator who explains the sport and its various components. Those who wish may then try being towed behind the snowmobile at “sled dog speed.” Participants who want to try being towed need cross‑country skis, poles, and ski boots. Activity level: Beginner.     You are warmly welcome to try ice fishing for perch on Lake Nydalasjön. All necessary fishing and safety equipment is available to borrow on site. The activity is led by fishing consultants from Umeå Municipality. Remember to dress warmly and bring extra clothes. You are also welcome to bring a snack and something warm to drink. Ice conditions are checked by test drilling the day before. If the ice is considered unsafe, the activity may be cancelled.
