NYHET Dr Sutherland is currently a Senior Lecturer in the Health Sciences Centre and College of Education at the University of Canterbury, Christchurch, New Zealand.
His teaching and research interests include Phonological and Literacy Development, Deaf Education, Early Intervention, Autism Spectrum Disorders, and the use of Augmentative and Alternative Communication by children and adults with significant communication difficulties. Dean co-ordinates the Inclusive and Special Education academic group at the University of Canterbury and is the Co-ordinator of a new Postgraduate programme for teachers to specialise in areas such as Learning and Behavior, Deaf Education, and Early Intervention.
