"Shut up and Write!" (SUAW) group

Hej!

My name is Eavan and I am a new postdoc in humanities at Umeå University. I'm setting up a "Shut up and Write!" (SUAW) group at the university.

The idea of SUAW is to meet somewhere informal, such as a café, and write together for 25-minute sprints (the Pomodoro Technique) followed by 5 minute breaks. The break is a great chance to chat and changes academic writing (sometimes a solitary experience) into a social activity (and no one will ever actually tell anyone to "shut up"!). It's also a good chance to work on any tasks you have been putting off.

All members of staff and postgraduate students are welcome, but SUAW can be particularly helpful for PhDs, postdocs, and those in the humanities and social sciences (who can find themselves working alone). It's ideal for those of us who struggle with procrastination! It will also be a good opportunity to meet people outside your discipline and for those new to Umeå.

The first session will be held at Café Lindell (beside the university library) from 8:00-10:00 on Wednesday morning 20 March.

Please join me if this is something that interests you. Feel free to contact me at eavan.odochartaigh@umu.se if you have any questions.
