The aim of the course is to give an introduction to the sociology of culture. Its theoretical origins, as well as its potential in order to understand cultural phenomena and expressions in contemporary societies, are discussed. The major focus is on the cultural studies tradition and its key concepts such as representation, ideology and discourse. The course also includes discussion of central themes within the field; media, popular culture, gender and the body.
