Space Physics with Measuring Techniques

  • Number of credits 7.5 credits
  • Level Master’s level
  • Starting Spring Term 2025

About the course

The course focuses on the space environment in our solar system and on different measurement techniques to study space. The sun, solar wind, solar-terrestrial coupling, magnetospheric physics, aurora borealis, planets, comets, asteroids and interplanetary dust are discussed. Measurement techniques for space-borne instruments (eg measurements of waves, fields and particles) as well as ground-based instruments (such as radar and optical measurements) are studied. The course provides an overview of key space missions and deals with rocket and orbital calculations. Central to the course are a number of longer laboratory sessions where students use computers to interpret and analyze authentic data from ground-based and space-borne instruments.
