Umeå Proteomics Platform (UPP)

Research infrastructure The Umeå Proteomics Platform offers systematic protein level measurements using state-of-the-art mass spectrometry. This supports your biological questions on assessing the impact of drug treatments, mutations, disease, or any perturbation.

Overview

We provide support with your mass spectrometry-based proteomics experiment. This includes advice on your experimental design and sample preparation. We perform the processing,  sample measurements, and data analysis. You will receive the processed data and an initial statistical analysis report to enable further biological discoveries.

Examples of experiments that can be performed are:

  • Identification of proteins in a sample (e.g., in gel/in solution purified proteins, isolated protein complexes).
  • Comparison of proteome-wide protein levels (e.g., cancer vs healthy tissue or liquid biopsy, WT vs mutant, drug-treated vs control).
  • Identification of protein partners from immunoprecipitation.
  • Identification of post-translational modifications (e.g., phosphorylation, glycosylation, SUMOylation, Ubiquitination).

If you have biological questions that would require other proteomic services, please contact us to discuss the project.

Instrumentation

The facility is equipped with two Orbitrap Exploris 480 coupled to Vanquish Neo nanoflow LC.

Orbitrap Exploris 480

The Thermo Scientific Orbitrap Exploris 480 mass spectrometer is an Orbitrap-based platform designed for high-resolution, accurate-mass analysis in proteomics and biotherapeutic research. The instrument supports a range of workflows, including exploratory and targeted quantitative analysis, TMT multiplexing and protein characterisation.

Vanquish Neo nanoflow LC

The Thermo Scientific Vanquish Neo UHPLC System is a low-flow liquid chromatography platform designed for nano-flow and capillary-flow LC-MS applications in proteomics and peptide analysis. The system supports the analysis of low-volume, complex biological samples and can operate across nano- to micro-flow ranges on the same hardware platform without modification.
