CemZero - Carbon dioxide free products based on electrified manufacturing - reactivity of cement clinker with secondary cementitious materials

Research project This project will evaluate the products and optimize them with secondary cementitious materials (SCMs) for end use applications. For the cement and concrete industry, reductions of carbon dioxide are thereby reached in several ways, which means that the amount of carbon dioxide for disposal is reduced.

The climate impact of several industrial segments must drastically be reduced if Sweden is to achieve its zero-emission target. Energy-intensive industrial branches with carbonate-based raw materials can through successful implementation of the CemZero program help achieve large reduction levels. This project connects, evaluates with focus on end products and raises the outcome of completed and ongoing projects.

Project description

The CemZero projects aims to evaluate electrifying of the manufacturing processes by, for example, use of plasma generators or electrical resistance elements for heating. In this way carbon dioxide from fuel usage is reduced and pure flue gas streams from the processes are obtained, which are suitable for CCS. This project will evaluate the products and optimize them with SCMs for end use applications. For the cement and concrete industry, reductions of carbon dioxide are thereby reached in several ways, which means that the amount of carbon dioxide for disposal is reduced.
