Prevalence and risk factors for asthma among Swedish competitive athletes: a websurvey

Research project A websurvey on the prevalence of asthma among Swedish competitive athletes participating in Lidingöloppet, Vasaloppet, Vätterrundan and Vansbrosimningen.

The asthma prevalence in Sweden is 9%. The prevalence among elite endurance athletes is 8-50%. The aim is to study the prevalence of and risk factors for asthma among Swedish competitive endurance athletes Swedish citizens participating in Lidingöloppet, Vasaloppet, Vätternrundan and Vansbrosimningen are eligible. Eligible athletes receive a websurvey regarding airway symptoms, asthma, allergy, and training. The prevalence of self-reported asthma is presented by age, sex, sport, and training backgrund. Risk factors associated with asthma will be presented.
