My work is based at the research center Icelab.

My research focuses on the evolution of biological complexity---particularly the origins of multicellularity, life cycles, syntrophy, and organizational scales. I use a variety of mathematical modeling techniques and collaborate with researchers from different disciplines and countries. I am thankful for generous support from various funding agencies, including the Swedish Research Council, Umeå University, NASA, and the National Science Foundation.
