Conference: Gender research across disciplines. Celebrating feminist scholarship at Umeå University, 14–15 October 2026
In a world facing multiple crises and growing challenges relating to academic freedom, gender research and critical research, it is crucial to have places in which to meet and share ideas. The aim of this conference is to provide an opportunity for feminist scholars to connect with each other and demonstrate the diversity of gender research conducted at Umeå University.
Two important milestones will be celebrated: 50 years of feminist research and the 25th anniversary of the Gender Research School, located at Umeå Centre for Gender Studies (UCGS). Umeå University has a long-standing tradition of gender research. In 1976, the first Women's Studies course was introduced at Umeå University. Since then, the Centre for Women's Studies has been established, followed by UCGS.
Today UCGS plays a central role in promoting and supporting the development of gender research across all faculties at Umeå University. Over its 25 years of existence, the Graduate School has co-financed almost 100 successful PhD projects spanning all four faculties, contributing to a vibrant, interdisciplinary, gender research community.
We warmly invite you to join us in celebrating and sharing your work with colleagues through roundtable discussions and oral presentations. The event will take place from lunchtime on the 14th to lunchtime on the 15th of October. The sessions will be held in English and Swedish.
