In the thesis work, the student will be trained in planning, implementing and reporting an independent project. It will also give the student a possibility to deepen and develop skills within the field of engineering physics. The work is carried out by the student independently but under supervision. The outcome of the work is disseminated by a thesis and an oral presentation. As a part of his/her work, the student will also undertake a critical examination of another student's thesis work.
The thesis shall normally be carried through during the fifth year of the programme. Admission requirements: at least 270 ECTS credits in total and all requirements under the heading "4.3 Other requirements" of the degree requirement. Depending on the subject of the thesis, specific prior knowledge may be required. Proficiency in English equivalent to Swedish upper secondary course English A (IELTS (Academic) with a minimum overall score of 5.5 and no individual score below 5.0. TOEFL PBT (Paper-based Test) with a minimum total score of 530 and a minimum TWE score of 4. TOEFL iBT (Internet-based Test) with a minimum total score of 72 and a minimum score of 17 on the Writing Section). Where the language of instruction is Swedish, applicants must prove proficiency in Swedish to the level required for basic eligibility for higher studies.
Applicants in some programs at Umeå University have guaranteed admission to this course. The number of places for a single course may therefore be limited.
