Research group Our research focuses on the causes of diabetes, its occurrence and the emergence of complications of diabetes.
We conduct clinical studies, experimental studies and epidemiological studies. The studies are usually carried out in collaboration with researchers within the faculty but also national and international partners.
The research group is responsible for a diabetes register - DiabNorth - which is based on participants in Västerbotten's health surveys (VHU) and the MONICA study. DiabNorth will shortly contain approximately 9,000 people with diabetes who, through their participation in VHU and MONICA, have provided detailed information on e.g. lifestyle, metabolic values, and diet. The participants have also donated blood samples for research which are stored at the Biobanken in Norr.
Umeå University is well ahead in autumn's allocation in the medical field from the Swedish Research Council.
Umeå University has contributed to results on lifestyle factors, based on data on 1.5 million people.
