Björn Ahlström is a Senior Lecturer and holds a PhD in Sociology. I am currently serving as Director at the Centre for Principal Development at Umeå University. My research focuses on leadership in relation to controversial issues and power relations in school contexts, with particular emphasis on gender, ethnicity and social class. These dimensions function as an analytical framework for understanding how educational organisations work with equity, equal opportunities and student participation. I have also published work on analysis and methodology related to schools’ systematic quality work, as well as on practice‑based research.
I have extensive experience teaching on the issues of organisation and leadership at both undergraduate and advanced levels. Since 2011, I have worked as course coordinator, process leader and subject expert in the National Principal Training Programme, the Recruitment Training Programme and Continuing Education for Principals.
