Umeå University is the flagship institution of higher education in northern Sweden. Our Bachelor's and Master's degree programmes, (in Swedish) will teach you how computers work so that you can write code and develop well-designed and professional programs and apps, or conduct analyses of a company and its customers to improve their current systems. The Department of Computing Science at Umeå University has recruited a large number of prominent international researchers, professors, postdocs and PhD students. We offer a dynamic and international atmosphere and are currently one of the largest departments in Sweden. Here, we conduct education and research in strong collaboration with business and industry, which you will meet at the Career Day. Some of our research areas are in AI, responsible AI, cloud computing, data privacy, cybersecurity, Explainable AI, AI for Data Management and Machine Learning, interactive and intelligent systems, language processing, which reflects the quality level of the programmes. Many exciting research projects are currently underway.
Umeå University and The Department of Computing Science are also deep involved in WASP, The Wallenberg AI, Autonomous Systems and Software Program, Sweden's largest individual research programme ever. Umeå University also coordinates WASP-HS, enabling cutting-edge research, expertise and competence, building knowledge about how AI impacts humanity and society. The Department of Computing Science also host TAIGA, Umeå University's Centre for Transdisciplinary AI, where researchers from across the university meet to discuss and create AI solutions with respect to society and the environment.
