Digital practices

The focus area of digital practices refers to research related to what people do with and through digital technologies, and how people relate to technology.

What do we define as digital practises?

Research within this focus area includes for instance studies about how digital media is used in the social and cultural contexts of different minorities, about computer games and gaming cultures, about digital cultural heritage or about visual cultures and communities on social media.

Methodologically, digital practices are often studied qualitatively, through e.g. digital ethnography, autoethnography, but also quantitative methods and mixed-methods may be suitable for answering certain research questions. Internet research ethics are central to research on digital practices.
