Research project Lifestyle habits are of great importance for health. However, many people find it difficult to make changes in their lifestyles. The general advice can feel difficult to follow because it is not adapted to their own life situation and many people therefore want more personalized support to implement changes or maintain healthy living habits.
The STAR-C research group, in collaboration with Region Västerbotten, the University of Gothenburg and the IT company Atea Sverige AB, has developed a digital mobile application. The application has an integrated, digital "coach" that is developed to provide personalized support focused on healthy living habits, for participants who have recently completed Västerbotten Intervention Programme (VIP) within Region Västerbotten. The aim of the project is to evaluate how the personalized digital support can contribute to promoting healthy living habits and the perceived health and well-being.
The STAR-C research project is developing a mobile application that aims to provide personalized support in everyday life to change or maintain healthy living habits.
It is based on experiences from Västerbotten Intervention Programme (VIP) and provides support in areas such as physical activity, food habits, consumption of alcohol, tobacco and nicotine habits. During the period 2025-2026, a larger study will be conducted with participants who are invited in connection with their participation in VIP All participants will receive the regular VIP intervention with the VIP nurse before recruitment into the STAR-C study.
To evaluate the app, half of the participants participating in the study will be randomly assigned to immediate access the app's personalized support with a digital "coach". The other half of the participants will also be given access to the app's personalised support, but with a delay of three months. Participation in the study involves answering follow-up questions in the app on at 1, 3 and 6 months.
