As a researcher at Umeå university you can publish your article open access free of charge or at a reduced cost in a wide variety of journals, thanks to agreements made between the library and various publishers. Publishing fees covered in full or in part by library agreements
When publishing your research open access, you often have to pay a publication fee known as the article processing charge (APC). The publisher may apply the fee for open access journals as well as for the open access option in a subscription-based journal.
Through agreements between the library and various publishers, researchers at Umeå university have the opportunity to get discounts on these open access publishing fees. The agreements either cover the APC fully or give a partial discount. They include several thousand journals in total.
The agreements may have additional terms and conditions that need to be followed in order for the discounts to apply. It is therefore important that you read the library’s agreement with the publisher of the journal that you are planning to get published in.

General terms and conditions
To be eligible for a discount, the following generally applies:
You must be the corresponding author, i.e., the one handling communication with the publisher and journal.
Your Umeå University affiliation must be stated in the published article.
Use your university e-mail ending with @umu.se. The e-mail domain is often used to recognize your eligibility.
Publishers may have additional terms and conditions. Always check the library’s agreement with the publisher of the journal that you are planning to publish in.
