I am an Associate Professor and Docent in Sámi Studies, and Deputy Director of Várdduo. My research focuses on conflicts and power relations affecting Indigenous peoples.
I am a Docent (Swedish academic title) in Sámi Studies and, since 1 March 2026, an Associate Professor at Várdduo – Centre for Sámi Research. My research examines conflicts and power relations affecting Indigenous peoples, with a particular focus on cultural, structural, extractive, and lateral violence in relation to Indigenous and local communities. I have developed and applied the concept of extractive violence to analyse how different forms of resource extraction impact Indigenous societies, and I continue to advance conflict research in collaboration with Indigenous communities by examining lateral violence and its connections to external pressures on communities in Indigenous contexts.
I lead and participate in several research projects. My ongoing project on lateral violence is a central part of my work. I am also a researcher in the Swedish Research Council–funded project Reassembling Democracy in Sweden: Trans-Disciplinary Research on Minority Narratives, Civic Imagination, and Participatory Futures in Sweden and Beyond, in collaboration with researchers at Linköping University. In addition, I am involved in the research project emPOWERing All, funded by the Swedish Energy Agency, together with colleagues at KTH Royal Institute of Technology and the University of Gothenburg. I am also a co-researcher in the Canadian knowledge network MinErAl (Knowledge Network on Mining Encounters and Indigenous Sustainable Livelihoods).
Internationally, I have extensive experience of research collaboration, particularly in Australia, and I am active in several research networks and editorial roles. I serve as Co-editor for the section Interdisciplinary and Transdisciplinary Approaches within Oxford University Press Intersections (within the Climate Adaptation theme). I am also a member of the Editorial Board of the Journal on Ethnopolitics and Minority Issues in Europe (JEMIE), a board member of the journal Kulturella Perspektiv, and a member of the board of the Swedish Human Rights Fund (MR-fonden).
Since June 2022, I have been the Deputy Director of Várdduo, and I teach when my schedule allows.
