When I Tried to Become an Artist
(Oil pastel on paper (A4), accompanied by a booklet with text and images)
Surface, Subject, Seen, Slipped Away is an ongoing project in which Rapp explores different levels of legibility within an image. The starting point is imagery drawn from walks. In this work, she examines how color, line, and surface can either bring the subject into focus or dissolve it.
When I Tried to Become an Artist is collection of texts and drawings from Rapp’s years at art school. The texts move between reflections on her artistic process and questions of priorities, existence, and love.
Karin Rapp (1981, Bjursås) works with drawing and painting in series where images move between legibility and dissolution, in the search for a visual language that remains open and evades a distinct reading.
