The works in this installation explore the church as a space and the objects that inhabit it. The forms are inspired by the vaults of the crypt in Lund Cathedral, the medieval carvings in St. Olav’s Pilgrim Church, and the cartoon-like stars that adorn the brass gate at the Pope’s summer residence in Italy.
The architectural elements unfold into organic forms, connecting to a tradition of ornamentation and visual storytelling. Through the works, the artist attempts to understand her own relationship to the church space, which has always evoked both fascination and resistance.
Linnéa Romeling (b. 1998, Lerum) is interested in the secular human's relationship to spirituality and religion. Her sculptural forms draw inspiration from barren nature, ritual objects, and symbols.
