Umeå Extracellular Vesicle Network

Research network links groups working on extracellular vesicles (EVs) at Umeå University and Umeå University Hospital (Norrlands Universitetssjukhus) and acts as a node for the national Swedish Extracellular Vesicle Network (SweSEV).

Extracellular vesicles as nanosized particles surrounded by a membrane lipid bilayer and are secreted by almost all cell types. Research into the biology of EVs from humans, bacteria, plants etc., and using them for diagnostic and therapeutic applications, is growing rapidly and across many fields.

UmEV includes researchers working with EVs from a range of different cell types including microbial membrane vesicles and EVs from human cells. Ongoing projects involve work on understanding the biogenesis of EVs and their cargos, EV signalling in cancer, regenerative biology, diagnosis of disease etc.
