Coalition Umeå for Life Science (CU4LS)

Research network Life science research in Umeå is versatile, interdisciplinary and of high scientific competence. The Coalition Umeå for Life Science (CU4LS) is highlighting the strengths and richness of Umeå Life Science research activities, spanning research areas from molecules to man, from microorganisms to ecosystems, from theoretical approaches to experimental sciences and into clinical research.

About CU4LS

The initial idea is to create a communication platform on which research news, events and activities of the coalition partners are presented. It will be strongly interconnected with the existing resources of the individual partners as well as of Umeå University, Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU) and the University Hospital of Umeå to complement these resources.

Over twenty research centres/units and infrastructures that perform life science research in and around the university campus in Umeå are partners of the coalition, including the internationally recognised Laboratory for Molecular Infection Medicine Sweden (MIMS), where the 2020 Nobel laureate in Chemistry Emmanuelle Charpentier made her ground-breaking discoveries about CRISPR-Cas9.

The coalition is open for all Umeå’s research centres/units and infrastructures active in different life science fields!

During the initiation phase, the Chemical Biological Centre (KBC) acted as a temporary node for the coordination of CU4LS and received funding from the involved universities and faculties for this, i.e. the Faculty of Medicine and the Faculty of Science and Technology, both from Umeå University, and the Faculty of Forestry from SLU. In 2022, a new steering board was selected for the coordination of CU4LS.

The life science research community in Umeå is highly active, open and collaborative! Explore Umeå’s life science research environment and activities represented by the CU4LS partners and state-of-the-art infrastructures displayed below!
