Welcome to the Umeå Institute of Design community! The UID experience is to meet new cultures, unlock your inner creator and challenge the status quo. UID is an inclusive and compassionate community, where all are welcome regardless of nationality, religion, race or sexual orientation.
The school purposely maintains limited class sizes to ensure careful attention is given to each student's individual journey. The close knit student community, while modest in numbers, is defined by its cosmopolitan nature. Represented by close to 40 different nationalities at any given time, the student body is global in nature with about a third of students coming from outside the EU.
Industry-like design studios
All programmes reside in industry-like design studios, where each student has an individual workspace. The shared spaces - workshops, computer labs, painting rooms, libraries - build innovative learning environments defined by a collaborative spirit.
