Design projects

Each semester, students engage in a core design project as part of a project-based learning approach, exploring relevant design opportunities to solve real-world problems in collaboration with external partners.

Project 1: Specialised product

This course introduces user-centred design methods for specialised professional contexts. Students investigate work practices, define opportunities and develop concepts with external partners. The outcome is a product or system tailored to specific user needs and interactions.

Explore products and systems tailored to real-world professional needs and user interactions

Project 2: General product

Students apply design ethnography and participatory methods to explore broad user needs, define opportunities and develop a concept with external partners. The outcome is a product, service or system that supports inclusive interaction and responds to real-world contexts.

Students co-create inclusive, real-world design solutions with external partners.

Project 3: Interaction concept

The course focuses on designing conceptual products or systems with an emphasis on the qualities of interaction. Students use dynamic methods that consider context, time and sensory factors, often working with external partners. The outcome is an interaction concept that communicates experience and intent.

Project 4: Degree project

In this course, students develop and demonstrate their ability to work independently as professional designers. They begin by framing a design challenge and carry out a self-directed process, presenting their work in written, visual, and exhibition formats. Projects may involve collaboration with an external partner.
