Urban Sustainable Energy Transition (U-SET) Lab advances knowledge and develop solutions to accelerate the transition towards sustainable, resilient, and climate-neutral energy systems. Through interdisciplinary research, we investigate how energy is produced and used across districts and cities, with the goal of enabling a low-carbon future.
Our research combines energy systems modelling, urban energy simulations, diffusion of innovation and social science theories to address the complex technological and societal challenges associated with energy transitions. Key research areas include positive energy districts, decarbonization pathways, solar energy integration, resource optimization of district heating systems, energy flexibility, and emerging low-carbon energy solutions.
Using advanced simulation tools and data-driven approaches, we evaluate pathways for transforming energy systems that are efficient, resilient, flexible, and environmentally sustainable while maintaining thermal comfort and economic viability.
Recognizing that successful sustainable energy transitions extend beyond technological innovation, we also examine the human and institutional dimensions of change. This includes studying the attitudes and preferences of end-users, roles of utilities, municipalities and other stakeholders in enabling the adoption and diffusion of sustainable energy solutions.
By combining technical and societal aspects, U-SET Lab provides a holistic understanding of how energy systems evolve and how sustainable energy transitions can be realized. Our research generates knowledge and insights that support stakeholders in creating sustainable, resilient, and climate-neutral communities.
