Docent i matematikdidaktik med forskningsintresse kring språk, kommunikation och resonemang i matematikundervisning.
Jag är docent i matematikdidaktik vid Institutionen för naturvetenskapernas och matematikens didaktik. Mitt generella forskningsområde är relationen mellan språk och matematik i samband med matematikundervisning och matematiklärande, till exempel hur läsning och lösning av matematikuppgifter hänger ihop. Jag studerar särskilt kopplingen mellan matematisk argumentation och elevers förståelse av förklaringar i läroböcker och lärargenomgångar. Det handlar till exempel om vilka för- och nackdelar det finns med tydlig respektive otydlig argumentation. Jag studerar också elevers lärande av det matematiska symbolspråket och hur elevers förståelse av matematiska symboler utvecklas över tid.
Större delen av min forskning bedriver jag i samarbete med Magnus Österholm som tillsammans med mig leder en forskargrupp inom Umeå Forskningscentrum för Matematikdidaktik (UFM) som heter Språk och Kommunikation. Vi arbetar för närvarande med ett större forskningprojekt finansierat av Vetenskapsrådet och ett av Wallenberg (mer information under fliken Forskning ovan).
Jag har en licentiatexamen i matematik (komplex analys i flera variabler) och en doktorsexamen i matematikdidaktik (2006) och arbetar idag som universitetslektor på Institutionen för naturvetenskapernas och matematikens didaktik (www.nmd.umu.se). För närvarande handleder jag en doktorand, Muhammad Zuhair Zahid, vid min egen institution. Tidigare har jag handlett Ulrika Wikström Hultdin, Anders Hofverberg, Cecilie Carlsen Bach, Frithjof Theens, Monica Egelström, Maria Lindfors, Maria Kenneman, Anneli Dyrvold, och Björn Palmberg. Jag är medlem i redaktionskommittéen för den nordiska tidskriften för forskning i matematikdidaktik, NOMAD, och för the International Journal of Science and Mathematics Education. Dessutom granskar jag regelbundet artiklar för bland annat NOMAD, Educational Studies in Mathematics (ESM) och Journal of mathematical behavior (JMB).
