Every Arcum affiliated researcher at Umeå University

Here you find all of the researchers at Umeå University that are affiliated to Arcum. They are lister in alphabetical order.

Every affiliated

Dalia Abdelfattah

Dalia is a postdoctoral researcher at the department of chemistry, Umeå University. She is part of [...]

the sustainable resources and innovation platform at the university and part of the system analysis and bioeconomy platform in the Bio4energy program. She employs system analysis thinking using life cycle assessments for several projects related to sustainable production of renewable bioenergy, and biomass materials for a circular economy. She is also interested on enhancing communication of scientific research.

Clas Ahlm

Clas Ahlm is professor and senior consultant (attending) physician at Department of Clinical Microbiology.

He does research on infectious diseases, for example viruses' which are spread through mosquitos in the Arctic area.

Kristin Ahlm

Kristin Ahlm is affiliated to the Department of Community Medicine and Rehabilitation.

She has done research on mortality in relation to different parameters, for an example unnatural deaths within reindeer herding Sámi families.

Jonas Alex

I work with research and development, as well as the specialist education, on ambulance healthcare. I am an expert within:

  • Thermic comfort
  • Hypothermia
  • Prehospital patient safety
  • Police emergency healthcare
  • Crisis medicine
Ingrid Allard

I am researching requirements on building energy performance in the building codes of [...]

Norway, Sweden, Finland and Russia, as well as the methods used to evaluate compliance with these requirements.

Fredrik Almqvist

Fredrik Almqvist is engaged in a project where researchers at Umeå University, Tromsø University, University of Lisbon and the Norwegian company Nofima have come together to [...]

investigate what bacteria isolated from this extreme environment can produce if they are allowed to consume the very last end products from the fishery industry.

Besides Fredrik's expertise in organic chemistry an important part of the project is to characterize the metabolic profile and for this task another Professor at Umeå University, Henrik Antti, is an active collaborator in the project.

Agneta Andersson

Agneta Andersson is Professor at Department of Ecology and Environmental Sciences.

She is, amongst other things, involved in the following research projects: (1) Overfertilization and environmental pollutants, (2) Effects of increased flow of organic material onto marine pelagial food webs, (3) Nutrient richness as a selection factor for the occurrence of predation-resistant bacteria in aquatic environments and (4) Microbial food webs’ importance to the survival and presence of Franscisella tularensis, in aquatic systems.

Daniel Andersson

Daniel Andersson is associate professor at the Department of Language Studies.

Place-making in a post-colonial Swedish Sápmi with a special emphasis on (1) the way nature plays a part in the narrative of Lapland and (2) the meaning of minority place-names for peoples sense of place, language revitalization and place-based identity.

Håkan Appelblad

Håkan Appelblad is Associate professor at Department of Geography.

He has amongst other things done research on sports fishing, running at the Vindelriver area as well as the cultural promotion of place as a 'northern' space.

Alf Arvidsson

In my research I am interested in how music, storytelling, festivals with different cultural aspects pictures and symbolizes local and regional identity, and [...]

[..] is used to create and strengthen such identity positions. Included in this are questions of how stereotypical views become resources and obstacles in self presentation, relations between internal interplay and external expectations, and rural areas possibilities and limitations.

Jenny Ask

My research interests are in the fields of aquatic ecology and biogeochemistry. I mainly focus on the lower trophic levels in aquatic food webs, i.e. algae and bacteria, but also [...]

their relative contribution to higher trophic levels. More specifically, I study how biotic and abiotic factors influence the metabolism (production and respiration), biomass development and species composition of algae and bacteria in various aquatic ecosystems. Within this context, I also investigate the structural difference between benthic and pelagic habitats, and how environmental factors control the distribution of metabolic processes between these habitats. On a larger scale, I am also interested in how aquatic ecosystems are affected by processes in the terrestrial environment (such as input of terrestrial organic matter) and the role of aquatic environments in the global carbon cycle.

Per Axelsson

Together with Christina Storm Mienna I am leading the HALDI – project. The overall aim of the project is to establish a comprehensive understanding of [...]

the present health and living conditions for the adult population in Jokkmokk municipality, including the Sami population. Funding has been received from Wallenbergstiftelserna (MAW 2019-23) and the  Ministry of Health and Social Affairs (2018).

Kristina Belancic

Kristina Belancic is currently a PhD student in language teaching and learning at the Department of Language Studies and Vaartoe at University of Umeå, Sweden.

Her PhD research focuses on Sámi children’s language use in the Sámi educational context in Sápmi. In particular her work examines Sámi children’s opportunities for language use from both the macro-level and micro-level.

Ingvar Bergdahl

Long-lasting pollutants with a potential to affect human health is my main Arctic research focus.

Examples are PCB, DDT, and lead. I combine this with my other professional role, working with the biobank samples from the Northern Sweden Health and Disease Study, that holds blood samples from well over 100,000 individuals. These are later followed up and we can compare individuals who later got a certain disease with others. Previous studies concern for example: mercury and myocardial infarction; cadmium and fractures; and lead and kidney failure. Currently we study PCB, DDT, and other persistent organic pollutants in relation to diabetes.

Åsa Berglund

My research focuses on environmental effects of mining and covers research sites within the northern part of Sweden.

I'm particularly interested in the recovery of formerly polluted environments, but also cross-ecosystem effects of aquatic subsidies, where I use the insectivorous, terrestrial bird pied flycatcher as indicator species and top consumer.
